Zareen Khan Reveals Being Body-Shamed; Actress Opens Up About Comparisons to Katrina Kaif: ‘Backfired Badly’
Zareen Khan opened up about the continual resemblances drawn between her and Katrina Kaif and how it impacted her career life. She made her Bollywood debut back in 2010 with the film, Veer.
Actor Zareen Khan recently shared personal insights about her experiences in Bollywood, particularly highlighting the constant parallels drawn between her and actor Katrina Kaif. On a recent episode of a podcast hosted by duo Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Zareen got candid about being dubbed as ‘high-minded’ in the industry. She shared how this consistent comparison with Katrina led to a few drawbacks in her career. Zareen had marked her entry into Bollywood with a role opposite superstar Salman Khan in the film ‘Veer’ released in 2010.
During a recent conversation, Zareen was invited to share her professional journey after her involvement in Veer. Interestingly, she chose to express her thoughts in Hindi. She said, “Life after Veer was very bad for me, I got a lot of criticism for it. The film was so big, it still is a life-changing moment for me. Initially, I felt very happy that I was being compared to Katrina Kaif! She is so beautiful! But i think within the industry, things turned quite the opposite. For me, who used to be overweight, being compared to Katrina was huge, but it backfired badly (sic).”
Zareena further added, “I was a lost child in the industry, and I didn’t know most people here. I only knew the names of the producers and directors not by their faces… but they started to feel I was arrogant because Salman Khan launched me (sic).”
Zareen shared her experience of facing harsh criticism, so much so that it left her feeling apprehensive about stepping out, all due to the wave of negativity thrown her way. She revealed, “There was a time I was even scared to step out of my house because people would comment on my clothes. That comparison went in a very negative way. I was called overweight. What should I do? I was given so many names, that at one point, I wanted to just sit at home (sic).”
Zareen sprung to fame with her lively performance in the catchy dance number, Character Dheela, starring opposite Salman Khan in the comic flick Ready, which came post her commendable work in Veer. Her biggest box office hit up to now is Housefull 2. On top of this, Zareen’s vibrant filmography includes a variety of films such as Hate Story 3, Aksar 2, and 1921, among others.
