Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, WPL 2024: Gujarat Giants defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 19 runs in Match 13 of the Women’s Premier League at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, March 6.
Gujarat Giants successfully defended the 199-run total as they restricted Bangalore to 180/8 and clinched their first victory of the season.
They finally managed to end up on the winning side but their chances to make it to the playoffs are almost over, having lost the first four matches.
Ashleigh Gardner was the pick of the bowlers for them as she took two wickets for 23 runs in her quota of four overs.
She got promising support from Kathryn Bryce and Tanuja Kanwar with the duo picking up a wicket each.
Georgia Wareham remained as the top run-getter for RCB, scoring 48 runs off just 22 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
While Richa Ghosh scored 30 off 21, skipper Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, and Sophie Devine got 24, 24, and 23 runs under their belt respectively.
Earlier, Gujarat after opting to bat first put up a show with the bat and posted a massive total of 199/5 in their 20 overs.
Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Beth Mooney stitched an incredible partnership of 140 runs to set the tone.
Mooney remained unbeaten on 85 in just 51 deliveries with the help of 12 fours and a six whereas Wolvaardt played a brilliant knock of 76 runs off 45 balls.
She smashed 13 boundaries before getting run out in the 13th over.
“Was a bit too close at the end for my liking, my heart rate was a little high. But yeah, stoked to get on the board. Everyone responded reallty well. There were a few eyebrows raised when we chose to bat. But Mike and I had a chat and wanted to get ahead of the game. Laura batted the house down. She was amazing tonight, took a lot of pressure off me,” said Mooney after being adjudged as the Player of the Match.
Despite getting off the mark in the second season of WPL, the Giants remained at the bottom of the table with just two points in five matches.
On the other hand, RCB stand at the second position with three wins and six points in six matches.
