World Rugby Sevens Series 2023-24: New Zealand wins both men’s and women’s titles

Hong Kong, 8 April (Hong Kong). New Zealand continued their dominance at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens on Sunday, winning both the men’s and women’s titles.

Hong Kong Rugby Sevens celebrated its 30th anniversary at the Hong Kong Stadium this year. There were 24 teams (12 each in men’s and women’s category) taking part in this tournament. The 12 teams were divided into three pools of 4 each, with the top two and two best third-placed teams from each pool advancing to the quarterfinals.

In the men’s category, New Zealand performed well in the group stage and eliminated Fiji and Australia in the knockout stage, setting up a final against France.

New Zealand won the gold medal by defeating France 10–7 in the final. Australia defeated Ireland 14-5 in the bronze medal match.

New Zealand defeated the United States 36–7 in the women’s final to win their second consecutive Rugby Sevens Series title. The reigning women’s Olympic champions had defeated Australia in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, thanks to the brilliant performance of Madison Levi, Australia secured third place with a 24-21 win over France.

The New Zealand women’s team had earlier won gold medals in Vancouver and Los Angeles.
