World Environment Day: Jharkhand's Padma Shri Jamuna Tudu and Sami Murmu fight jungle mafia, read Lady Tarzan's story
Sagulia, Rakesh Singh: Padmasree Jamuna Tudu, a resident of Sonahattu panchayat of Sonahattu panchayat of Sagulia block in East Singhbhum district, has been the leader of a movement to save forests. She is popularly known as Lady Tarzan. He has received Padma Shri and many other awards for his unforgettable work in the field of forest and environment protection. He is giving the message to the people that we will save the forests and is engaged in tree planting. Jamuna has inherited the education of saving forests. His father was also a nature lover and his hobbies were planting trees and protecting forests from deforestation. Jamuna Tudu from Rairangpur in Mayurpanj district of Odisha and Mansingh Tudu from Paredih Dhola from Chagulia got married in 1998. Near the mother-in-law's house is Mudurgam hill, where there were trees and plants, but they were very few. According to tradition, the tribal community used to cut trees from this hill for their needs and use its wood in their houses, which stirred the heart of Jamuna. Women also have to fetch firewood from the forest. Jamuna protested against this. First he explained to his in-laws that if the mountain is green then we will have happiness and peace throughout our life. Then explained to the villagers. Gradually he began to gain the support of the women of the village. Jamuna Tudu, along with the village women, formed a group of village women and started protecting the forest with sword and ax in hand. A crowd of women used to run towards the hill when they heard the mafias cutting trees. There were many encounters with mafias. Mafias also carried out a terrible attack on Jamuna. Nevertheless, she was undaunted and fought the mafia. The desolate and barren hill gradually began to bloom with green sal trees. Jamuna was nicknamed Lady Tarzan for her fierce nature of saving forests. Sagulia got the full support of the Forest Department. Jamuna received many awards for her outstanding work in the field of forest conservation. The then President Ram Nath Kovind honored him with the Padma Shri in 2019. Current President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also praised Jamuna's work several times. Jamuna Thudu has tied rakhi to trees and plants on the eve of Rakshabandhan, became the head of the General Committee for Forest Protection and Management and is now spreading the message that we will save forests across the state. He also inspires people to establish relationships with trees and plants to save them. Every year during the festival of Rakshabandhan, he regards the trees and plants as his brothers, ties a rakhi to them and takes a pledge to save them. According to Jamuna Tudu, in the current situation, the entire country has been forced to endure extreme heat as a result of indiscriminate cutting of trees and plants. Planting trees is the only way to deal with this situation. Giving a message to the people of the area, he said trees and plants should have a place in every joy and celebration. Whether it's a baby's birth, a birthday celebration, a wedding or an anniversary, everyone should plant at least five trees on every occasion. There is no alternative to tree planting. I will fight till my last breath for environmental protection and women empowerment: Sami Murmu Jamshedpur, Dashmat Soran: Environmentalist and Padma Shri Sami Murmu (52 years old), from Pakraisai village, Rajnagar block, Seraikela-Karsawan district. He has devoted his entire life to environmental and social service. So, as long as there is life in the body, as long as breathing continues, the love for the environment will not diminish. I will continue to work on environment conservation, gardening, women empowerment, ponds and water resources. She left home as a social responsibility for environment protection and women empowerment and not for the purpose of bagging awards. But the Government of India and the Government of Jharkhand appreciated and honored his work. Honored to be honored by President Draupadi Murmu, when she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said that only if the forest environment is saved, there will be life on earth. Therefore, every person should make gardening and forest conservation a part of daily life. No single person can be held responsible for damaging the forest ecosystem. The entire human society is responsible for this. Everyone should come forward to protect it. In the initial stage, he had to hear a lot of taunts from people, but he never lost courage and in 1990, he founded an NGO called 'Sahyogi Mahila'. Through this, she formed more than 2300 women's self-help groups. Through these groups, women were helped to become self-reliant by providing loans in banks. A lot of work has been done for the upliftment of primitive tribal women and girls in remote areas of Dalma. In the 1990s, when he went from village to village to meet women, he says, members of the community teased him in many ways. In fact, at that time it was considered wrong for a woman to leave home. But she ignored people's taunts and worked day and night for environment and women empowerment. Today the same people are never tired of calling themselves their own. Considering Mother Teresa as his role model, Sami Murmu started social service in 1990. She is celibate and has dedicated her life to women's empowerment and environmental protection. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in May 2024 for his outstanding contribution to society. Sammy Murmu said that he has been working in the field of environmental protection for about 34 years. So far, under her leadership, more than 30 lakh saplings have been planted and many significant works have been done in the field of women empowerment. He helped in the construction of ponds and water sources in rural areas and created awareness among the people. Nari Shakti and Indira Priyadarshini Virukshamitra awardee Sami Murmu was born in 1973. He started planting trees in 1996. Her women's organization has 3,000 members. In March 2020, on International Women's Day, the then President Ram Nath Kovind honored her with the Nari Shakti Award in New Delhi. In 1996, he was awarded the Indira Priyadarshini Virukshamitra Award.
