In fact, Vinesh Phogat appealed to CAS on Wednesday against his disqualification from the women's wrestling 50kg final at the Paris Olympics and demanded that he be awarded a combined silver medal. We inform you that the CAS Department is established here to resolve any dispute that may arise during the Olympic Games or 10 days prior to the opening ceremony, where the CAS will conduct an investigation. Cuban wrestler Yuznelis Guzmán Lopez advanced to the final after losing to Vinesh in the semifinals. A CAS hearing was earlier scheduled for Thursday. But the Indian team had also sought time to appoint an Indian lawyer for the investigation. Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing to Friday i.e. today. According to reports, former Solicitor General of India and King's Counsel Harish Salve will appear before the CAS on behalf of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It is said that a decision can be taken today. But if the court deems the case warrants further hearing, it may grant a further date. However, in most cases the result comes on the same day. What is CAS? The Court of Arbitration for Sport i.e. CAS is an independent organization created for sports around the world. Its job is to settle legal disputes related to sports. It was established in the year 1984. Its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Its courts are in New York, Sydney and Logan. Temporary courts have also been built in current Olympic cities. In this series, the CAS is set up this time in Paris where the Vinesh Phogat case is being tried. What is Vinesh Phogat's controversy? In fact, just hours before the finals of the 50 kg freestyle wrestling category, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified. Vinesh reportedly weighed around 100 grams. As such, due to rules, he missed out on the gold medal even after winning the semi-final. However, Vinesh contested the decision and claimed the joint silver medal. Vinesh Phogat's hopes for a medal have increased after the matter went to CAS.
