Why Tamil Nadu wants to stay away from NEET? The motion was also passed in the Assembly
Many stories related to irregularities in NEET UG exam 2024 have come to light till now. The continuous struggle of the students continues. The investigation has now been handed over to the CBI. Amid the growing controversies, the demand to cancel the NEET exam has again gained strength in Tamil Nadu. In this case, the resolution has been unanimously passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on June 28, 2024. In that recommendation, the Tamil Nadu government has requested the central government to cancel the NEET exam and allow the state governments to conduct medical admissions based on the 12th class marks. DMK's M.K.Stalin government on September 13, 2021 brought a bill to exempt medical students from NEET examination in Tamil Nadu. It was returned by the Governor on 3 February 2022. Walkout of BJP MLAs While the BJP MLAs walked out, DMK's allies Congress, VK, CPI, CPI(M), Madhyamik MLAs D. Velmurugan, M.H. Jawahirullah, Manoj B. Pandian and BJP ally PMK supported the resolution in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP's ally, the BJP, has expressed its support for the plan proposed by Stalin. He argued that the examination was discriminatory and deprived rural and poor students of the opportunity to study medicine. The Tamil Nadu government says that due to the NEET exam, it is difficult for poor and rural students to get medical education. While BJP leader Nainar Nagendran argued about this, the then Union Health Minister JP Natta and the then Chief Minister K. Palaniswami confirmed 7.5 percent reservation for state government school students who passed the examination. Nagendran said that NEET examination is necessary because it has many advantages. Therefore the motion of the Assembly is not acceptable. What did Stalin say? Proposing the proposal, Stalin said that apart from depriving poor and rural students of medical education, NEET would affect medical services in rural and underprivileged areas. The Chief Minister said that since the NEET exam was made compulsory in 2017, the DMK has been continuously opposing it and has launched a massive campaign to cancel the exam. Stalin cited letters written by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to the Center demanding cancellation of the NEET exam. The voice of Tamil Nadu has now become the voice of the country. He appealed to the members to support his proposal against NEET exam.
