Who is Pavan Davuluri- the new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface?

Microsoft Windows and Surface has got its news boss: Pavan Davuluri, a graduate of Indian Institute Of Technology – Madras. He has replaced his predecessor Panos Panay, who left the organisation last year to join Amazon.

Previously, Microsoft had bifurcated the Windows and Surface departments, with each vertical having its own head. Pavan Davuluri used to head Surface silicone work. Now, as Microsoft veteran Davuluri gets a promotion, he will be heading both verticals.

Who is Pavan Davuluri?

Pavan Davuluri has graduated from the prestigious IIT Madras. He has been working with Microsoft for over 23 years now. He completed his post-graduation from the University of Maryland and then joined Microsoft as the Reliability Component Manager.

He also served as corporate vice president for almost three years. With his new appointment, he joins the ranks of Indian leadership in US tech giants, alongside big names like Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella.

Internal communication

Microsoft’s head of experience and devices Rajesh Jha in an internal communication declared Davuluri’s new role. He wrote in the letter that his appointment “will enable us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era.”

“As part of this change, we are bringing together the Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices teams as a core part of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division,” Jha wrote.

“Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson and their teams will report directly to Pavan. The Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences,” he added.
