WhatsApp might soon display a label that tells you when chats are encrypted
as per reports, WhatsApp might soon display a small label in users’ chat window to indicate when their chats are fully encrypted. The feature was reported to undergo testing back in January and as per latest update, it is being rolled out to beta testers now.
WhatsApp to display new label
A report by WaBetaInfo states that WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature to some beta testers. As part of this feature, users will see a small message in their chat windows that signals eend-to-end encryption. The label, as per the report, will appear for a brief time at the place where one usually can see last seen of other users. This will make it easier for users to know which chats are end-to-end encrypted and will ensure that their chats aren’t being read by anyone else.
The report also says that the feature was announced back in January this year and will rollout to more users “in the coming weeks.”
WhatsApp to allow third-party chats
Earlier, another report had said that WhatsApp will soon give users the option of sending messages to other platforms as well. For instance, you might be able to send messages to apps such as Telegram and Signal using WhatsApp.
The report also showed a chat info screen for third-party chats, showcasing essential details. The report also added that profile names and photos will not be available for third-party chats, and the app plans to display the default profile photo along with the name of the third-party app associated with the chat. Users will also reportedly have control over which apps can communicate with their WhatsApp account, ensuring personalised preferences.
However, it’s important to note that there will be certain limitations with third-party chats within WhatsApp. For example, group chats involving third-party apps will not be supported, and making calls with these apps will also not be possible.
The report also said that at the beginning, communication with third-party chats might be limited to text messages, but future updates may expand these capabilities. Furthermore, users will have the choice to manually activate the optional interoperability service.
