WhatsApp bringing new feature soon, will let users share videos of up to 1 minute as status update

Now, the instant messaging platform is testing a new feature that will let you upload videos that are 1 minute long.

WhatsApp’s upcoming feature

As per a report in WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will let users upload 1-minute videos as status updates. As of now, users can upload videos of up to 30 seconds on the platform. Hence, this move will be welcomed by users who wish to upload extended videos as their status.

The decision to extend the video status duration likely responds to user feedback. Users have consistently asked for the ability to share longer videos as status updates. With the previous 30-second limit, users often felt restricted when trying to share comprehensive stories or longer snippets of their lives. Now, with a one-minute duration, users can share more extensive video content without needing to make edits or compromises on their message.

The report also says that the feature to share videos up to 1 minute long via status updates is available to some beta testers already, who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android from the Google Play Store. It will roll out to more users over the coming weeks. It is important to note that users may need to update WhatsApp to view longer videos shared via status updates.

Recent features by WhatsApp

A recent report by WABetaInfo also suggested that WhatsApp will soon let users mention their contacts in status updates. Users who get mentioned in such updates will also receive a notification. This has most likely been done to boost user engagement on the app as users who are mentioned by others have a higher chance of interacting with those status updates.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is also working on facilitating easier QR payments. The messaging app will reportedly let you easily share your QR code straight from the chats tab. Currently, you have to go into settings to do this. With the new update, it’ll be quicker and simpler. In addition to this, when you share your QR code, WhatsApp might display your username instead of your phone number. Hence, this feature might be rolled out after WhatsApp introduces username support.
