What Dhoni could not do for five years, Gaikwad did: created a new record for CSK
The 22nd match of IPL 2024 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. In this match, Gaikwad led his team to victory by scoring a half-century (67). Shivam Dubey played an aggressive inning of 28 runs in 18 balls. He became the first captain of Chennai Super Kings to do so in the last 5 years.

With scoring a half-century, Gaikwad became the first CSK captain in the last five years to score a half-century in the IPL. Before this, MS Dhoni was the last captain to score a half-century for Chennai in 2019. Dhoni also scored a half-century in 2022 but it came under the captaincy of Ravindra Jadeja.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the fourth player to win the most matches for Chennai Super Kings. He has won this award 10 times. Ravindra Jadeja was chosen player of the match for his excellent all-round performance in this match. With this, Jadeja equaled Dhoni’s record of winning Player of the Match the most number of times. Both have 15 POTM awards. Suresh Raina is second in the list with 12 awards.

CSK won the third match
CSK, bowling after consecutive defeats, restricted Kolkata Knight Riders to 137 runs for 9 wickets. Experienced all-rounder Jadeja (3/18) has done well for CSK. He took wickets at regular intervals and did a good job of stopping the flow of runs at Chepauk. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande (3/33) dismissed 3 batsmen while Mustafizur Rahman (2/22) took two wickets. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer scored 34 runs in 32 balls and was the team’s top scorer. Chennai achieved the target of 138 runs with 14 balls remaining.
