What bothered China about India-Maldives deal?

A trailer started showing improving relations between India and Maldives. Maldives has decided to hand over the administration of 28 islands to India. Now it is the responsibility of the Government of India to operate and maintain water supply and sewage related projects in these 28 islands. This was announced by the President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizu. After Prime Minister Modi's visit to Lakshadweep and strained relations between the Maldives and India, this new deal between the two countries may sting India's opponents, but at a time when an Indian-backed government in Bangladesh has been ousted, it is important. There is good news for India's diplomacy in this regard. Actually, there are about 1190 islands in Maldives, out of which only 200 islands have been developed for tourism. Now the administration of 28 out of 200 islands is going to be in the hands of India. What was the agreement between the two countries? Under the agreement between India and Maldives, India will look after water supply and sewage treatment works in 28 islands of Maldives. India had invested Rs.920 crore in Maldives for this project. This will directly benefit 28 thousand people from Maldives. Announcing the deal, the Maldivian President took to social media in a post where he officially handed over water and sanitation projects across the Maldives' 28 islands to Dr. S. He wrote that he was happy to meet Jaishankar. Thanks to the Government of India and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi for always helping Maldives. Why was the system handed over to India? A question in people's mind may be why Muizu has handed over the management of 28 islands to India for water and sewerage. In fact, hotels and resorts in the Maldives have strict rules regarding garbage disposal. Here, in hotels and resorts, segregation of garbage is mandatory. The solid waste is sent to Dilabushi Island where it is dissolved. Hotels and resorts should ensure that their waste is properly packed and labeled so that it can be transported safely to Thilafushi. The main garbage dump in the Maldives is Tilapushi Island, often called 'Garbage Island'. The island is 7 kilometers from Male. It was developed as a dumping ground in the 1990s. After this, garbage is collected from other islands of Maldives and dumped in Tilabushi. India provides technical and financial support to Maldives for garbage disposal. Earlier Moiseu gave the India Out slogan, President of Maldives Mohammed Moiseu came to power with the India Out slogan. After taking office on November 17 last year, he has shown great speed in repatriating Indian soldiers from Maldives. After becoming president, his first foreign trip was to Turkey and second to China, usually the first foreign trip of a Maldivian president to India. During Prime Minister Modi's visit to Lakshadweep, several Maldivian ministers made controversial statements, however, in damage control, Moiju removed them. Now it has taken a U-turn, with such decisions being taken continuously in the Maldives, the pro-China Moiju…doesn't maintain good relations with India due to pressure from China, but considering the pressure of the opposition parties and its own needs, the Maldives…had to take a U-turn. Moiju attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration to improve relations with India. It is believed that relations between the two countries began to improve from here. In June, President Moise had visited India and now External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the Maldives, which announced the handover of 28 islands to India. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar's three-day visit to the Maldives was closely watched by China. “China does not want special relations or cooperation with the Maldives, while India sees China as a threat to its dominance in the region,” Chinese experts said on Sunday. However, S Jaishankar's visit was tracked by a Chinese state daily, showing that China is fighting but it has failed to sour relations between India and the Maldives. Another major agreement has been reached during this visit of S. Jaishankar. One of these agreements is related to the Unified Payments Interface i.e. UPI. In the coming days, the first UPI transaction will be seen in Maldives. – TV9 Bureau
