Water seeped into 100 houses in Baghbeda's low-lying settlements, Jukshali under bridge flooded, leaving people worried.

Jamshedpur. Due to the heavy storm and rain that lashed the city on Sunday evening, the water level of the canal in Bagpeta Naya Basti suddenly rose. This caused flooding in the colony. About 100 houses in the low-lying areas of Bagbera's Naya Basti, Babagudi, Chido-Kanhu Basti and Kolkappa Basti were inundated. Fearing rain in the evening, people left their homes and moved to safer places with their belongings. Bagbera Naya Basti and low-lying areas have to face problems like flooding during monsoons, the Gargai river is filled with water and the drain leading from Bagbera area to the river stagnates. As the river is filled with water, there is no flood at present. This situation has arisen due to encroachment of drainage land near River View Society. Land has been encroached by dumping mud in canals. Due to this the width of the channel has decreased. As a result, the entire Baghbeda-Kitadih area is flooded with rainwater instead of flowing into the river. The people of the area have requested the district officer to stop this encroachment. There was also talk of facing a flood-like situation during monsoons, but instead of taking action on the complaint, JIP member Bagpeda went to Naya Basti and the lower areas to inspect the situation, where 100 houses were inundated with sewage water. After receiving the information, Zilla Parishad member Dr. Kavita Parmar came to Naya Basti and inspected the situation. He immediately spoke to the Zonal Officer and Jakishala Special Officer and requested them to clean the sluice gate. He said the culverts will be cleaned on Monday. Zilla Parishad member Bagbera-Gandhinagar branch also visited trees and two electric poles which were waterlogged by the storm. Two houses were badly damaged by falling trees. He spoke to the Executive Engineer of the Power Board and requested that the pole be repaired as soon as possible. As the district officials were informed about this, due to heavy rain, the Jakishala near Tata Pigment Gate turned into a pond. Buses, tempos and two-wheelers get stuck in the overflowing water under the underbridge as the vehicles get stuck. Motorcycles, bicyclists and even pedestrians faced great difficulty in moving forward. Vehicles stood in long queues on both sides of the lower bridge. If it rains lightly, the underpass is always full of water. However, the lack of a permanent solution to this problem is incomprehensible. It is the main under bridge from Tatanagar station towards Bistupur, Sonari, Chakki and Adityapur. Thousands of people travel through it every day.
