Video: Boxing Daughters of Chhabra Village Spread Light in the World
Prabhat Kiran Himanshu of Chhapra: Daughters of ordinary families who once strolled the village pavements are now shining in the country and the world with their talent. The girls of Thikwara block of Saran district are not only making new records every year in sports like boxing, kickboxing, taekwondo, wushu and bringing pride to the district but also setting an example for other village women. Priyanka, Varsha, Priya, Pallavi participated in the boxing training camp which started on a small scale in 2008 at Ramjungal Singh College in Tikwara. Later, a coaching club was formed in this college to promote the talents of the villagers. Seeing the appeal of popular sports like cricket, in the first few years, boys were less attracted to these sports. However, after two to three months of starting the coaching club, around 22 girls started taking coaching. Today around 40 girls are regularly trained in these sports. Now separate training arrangements have been started for boys as well. Many of these talented people left the village and participated in programs in countries like Tahira, Mishra and Italy.
