Vegetables, a concern for the common man, is the fourth consecutive month of rising wholesale price inflation

Inflation: Prices of food items, vegetables and their products are leaving the common man breathless. As a result, the headline inflation index has risen for the fourth consecutive month. Especially, the prices of vegetables are rising very fast. According to data released by the government on Monday, July 15, 2024, the country's headline inflation rose to 3.36 percent in June for the fourth consecutive month. Total price index-based inflation stood at 2.61 percent in May. In June 2023, it was minus 4.18 percent. Food prices rose by 10.87 per cent, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement on Monday, with inflation in food products, food product manufacturing, raw chemicals and natural gas, mineral oil and others peaking. Onion inflation was 93.35 percent and potato inflation was 66.37 percent. Pulses inflation stood at 21.64 per cent in June. Inflation in the fuel and electricity sector stood at 1.03 percent, slightly lower than May's 1.35 percent. Producer price inflation stood at 1.43 percent in June, up from 0.78 percent in May. The government released the retail inflation rate based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) last week. Retail inflation rose to a four-month high of 5.1 percent in June, according to retail inflation data released by the government. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mainly keeps retail inflation in mind while formulating monetary policy.
