Union Minister Kishan Reddy said in the Parliament that Rahul Gandhi is shedding crocodile tears over the welfare of farmers
Monsoon Session of Parliament is going on. The exchange of views between the party and the opposition in the Lok Sabha is ongoing. In the same vein, Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday targeted Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his statement on farmers' welfare in Parliament. He said that Rahul Gandhi's crocodile tears are completely blind to farmers' welfare. This is quite different from what was done between 2004 and 2014 when the UPA was in power. G. Kishan Reddy raised a question in the House and said, “Have you forgotten what UPA said in front of Parliament in 2013? The government led by the then Agriculture Minister Sarath Pawar had told the House that the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee could not be accepted. He further asked if the then UPA government did not say that providing a minimum support price of 50 per cent of the cost of production would lead to market distortion and that the mechanical relationship between MSP and cost of production would sometimes be counterproductive. Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi in the House, he said that it was Prime Minister Modi who carried out the recommendations of the committee headed by MS Swaminathan without any baggage. It also announced a minimum support price of 50% of production cost. He berated Rahul as to why the comments made by the leader of the opposition are not being implemented in states like Telangana, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh ruled by the Congress. Rahul Gandhi to focus on Congress-ruled states – G Kishan Reddy During a debate in the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said farmers should be guaranteed a legally low price. G Kishan Reddy, “Isn't it true that the United Progressive Alliance deliberately sidelined this?” He questioned. He said the United Progressive Alliance government has made it clear that it does not accept the recommendations of the National Farmers Commission. He also said that attention should be paid to the promises made by Rahul Gandhi to the farmers of Telangana.
