TRI Patna action, seized Rs 64 lakh worth of cigarettes smuggled from Myanmar, two arrested!
BIHAR NEWS: In a major operation, the Patna branch of the Directorate of Revenue Investigation (TRI) has seized a huge haul of cigarettes of foreign origin at Parsauni Chem Customs post near Patna. During this operation, TRI recovered 3,74,000 cigarettes. Its estimated price is said to be Rs 63 lakh 58 thousand. During this, the ferry has also been confiscated. The driver and assistant of the lorry have been arrested. Further action is being taken in this matter. Patna DRI continues to crack down on the smuggling of cigarettes smuggled from Myanmar. In the same line, a suspicious container lorry was stopped and searched at Barsawni Chem toll plaza in Sakiya. During this, 3,74,000 cigarettes hidden in a specially prepared cavity behind the driver's seat were recovered. The driver and passenger of the truck agreed that the cigarettes were of foreign origin and smuggled from Myanmar. The consignment could be part of a larger smuggling network, demanding stricter action against cigarette smuggling from Myanmar, which has been implemented by the DRI. This is the third major seizure of smuggled cigarettes in the past one month. DRI officials believe that the cargo may be part of a larger smuggling network.
