Tomato price: Tomato prices are going to decrease in other parts of the country including Delhi, the capital of India. The government has expressed hope that once the tomato cargo arrives from these two states, the price of tomatoes in other parts of the country, including Delhi, will start to come down. According to the information provided by the government of Rs 75 per kg of tomatoes in Delhi, the retail price of tomatoes in the national capital Delhi has now reached Rs.75 per kg. A government official said on Saturday that tomato prices are expected to drop in the coming weeks due to increased inflows from the two southern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The official said that the prices of tomatoes and onions, which have increased due to supply restriction, are expected to stabilize soon. Why did the price of tomatoes go up? An official of the Consumer Affairs Ministry told PTI news agency that prices of tomatoes, potatoes and onions have gone up significantly in Delhi and other cities. Due to extreme heat and continuous heavy rains, the supply of these staple vegetables has been affected and due to this, the retail prices of these vegetables have increased. Tomato prices in Delhi have touched Rs 75 per kg, but if heavy rains do not disrupt the supply chain, it may come down, he said. Tomatoes from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand sold in Delhi According to ministry data, the retail price of tomatoes in Delhi on July 12 was Rs. 75, while it was Rs.150 per kg during the same period a year ago. As on July 12, the all-India average retail price of tomato was Rs 65.21 per kg, as against Rs 53.36 per kg last year. At present, tomatoes are supplied to Delhi from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A ministry official said hybrid tomatoes are going to come from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The government has no plans to resume selling tomatoes at subsidized prices. The measure was implemented last year when it crossed Rs 110 per kg. The official expressed hope that prices would stabilize in a couple of weeks due to improved supply from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
