Ticket Cancellation Charge: Now this much money will be deducted for canceling waiting ticket
Waiting Ticket Cancellation Charges: Railway passengers have got a big relief. In case of cancellation of waitlisted and RAC tickets booked through IRCTC website, there will be no deduction of huge amount in the name of convenience fee.
Now only a cancellation fee of Rs 60 per passenger fixed by the Railways will be charged on such tickets. On the complaint of Giridih’s social cum RTI activist Sunil Kumar Khandelwal, Railways has decided to provide this relief to the passengers. This will provide relief to the people of the entire country.
Khandelwal had sent a letter to the railway administration on April 12 regarding the arbitrary fee being charged by IRCTC on ticket cancellation. In this he had said that if the waiting tickets booked from IRCTC website are not confirmed then the Railways itself cancels those tickets. Also a large part of the amount paid by us is deducted as service charge.
IRCTC action after complaint
For example, it was said that if a waiting ticket is booked for Rs 190 and the ticket is not confirmed, then the Railways refunds only Rs 95. In the light of this complaint, IRCTC has taken this major action.
IRCTC Managing Director has informed Khandelwal on April 18 that the policy, decisions and rules related to ticket booking and refunds are the subject matter of Indian Railways (Railway Board). IRCTC is bound to follow the rules and regulations made by the Railways.
He has further said that in case of fully waitlisted, RAC tickets clerkage charges, a cancellation charge of Rs 60 per passenger will be levied as per Indian Railways rules. The Managing Director of IRCTC has greatly appreciated Khandelwal’s suggestion.
Also thanked him for bringing this matter before the railway administration. Here, Khandelwal has expressed gratitude to the Railway Administration for taking cognizance of the matter and taking immediate action.
