The police caught the leader of the sambal robbers very easily
In revenge for her humiliation, Phulan Devi made 26 people from that village stand in a queue and shot them dead. In this incident, 22 out of 26 people died on the spot. The remaining 6 were seriously injured. The incident made headlines in newspapers across the country and abroad. After the incident, Behmai began to pressurize the Uttar Pradesh government to remove those accused in the murder case, especially the robbers from Chambal. In the 1980s, the scourge of bandits was at its peak in the Chambal Valley. Then Ram Audar, Lallu Gang, Phulan Devi Gang, Mustaqeem and Ban Singh Tomar gangs terrorized the Sambal valleys. The terror of Chambal's marauders spread to Dholpur, Morena, Bind, Etawah, Orai and Kanpur. 'Baba Mustaqeem' who was the leader of Sambal's bandit gang, took revenge for the disgrace of bandit Phulan Devi after the mass killing in Behmai, UP. Mustaqeem's gang may have been involved in avenging the humiliation of Phulan Devi, but Mustaqeem was against the murder. Neither gang informed Mustaqeem about the Behmai incident. After the Behmai massacre, Mustaqeem had expressed his displeasure to Phulan Devi. At that time, every bandit of Sambal used to come to Mustaqeem for advice and respected him and followed Baba Mustaqeem's orders. Dacoit Mustaqeem was left alone after the Behmai murder case, except for a few bandits, there was good coordination among most of the robbers in Chambal's gang. Mustaqeem had a good hold in the border areas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, along the Yamuna, Chambal, Gwanri and Indus river basins, especially in the rural areas of Jalan, Orai, Dadia and Kanpur. But Mustaqeem, angered by the Behmai murder case, splits with the rest of the gang. After the Behmai incident, the Uttar Pradesh police entered the valleys with an aim to eradicate the robbers. Baba Mustaqeem, who was returning from meeting Malkhan Singh in the valley, came to know that the valley was surrounded by policemen from all sides. So Mustaqeem hastily shaves off his beard and dons a DSP's uniform, disguises a fellow robber as a policeman and reaches the besieged spot on a motorcycle. Mustaqeem directed the policemen there to go in a different direction and safely evicted the dacoit Malkhan from the police compound. After this incident, Mustaqeem went towards Agra without going towards his gang in the valley and then after a few days he came to Kanpur and went into hiding. At this time, Mustaqeem planned to go to Mumbai safely, but before going to Mumbai he wanted to meet his elder brother once. One day he left to meet his elder brother as planned. Mustaqeem's brother used to work as a laborer while living at his in-laws' house in Dastampur village of Kanpur Dehat. On the night of March 3, 1981, the robber Mustaqeem reached his cousin Imamuddin's house on a motorcycle. After that, he took Imamuddin with him and came to Kalupur in the morning by bus. He bought paan for his own food from the shop of Mewalal, a paan seller in Kalupur, and then washed his hands and face with a hand pump installed in a government school. Near Kalupur was Dastampur village where his elder brother lived. After washing their hands and face, both of them left for Dastampur village on foot. At the time both of them had only one bag in the name of luggage. Which Mustaqeem held in his hands. A mahua tree was planted before Dastampur village. From there a road led towards the Muslim settlement of Dastampur village and ended near a mosque. Dacoid Mustaqeem's elder brother Maqbool had built a hut near the mosque. Maqbool lived in this hut with his family. Dacoit Mustaqeem has brought his cousin Imamuddin to show him his brother Maqbool's house. On seeing the police, Mustaqeem and Imamuddin approached a mahua tree outside the village when Mustaqeem saw a sub-inspector Hariram Pal and a constable coming ahead on a motorcycle. As Mustaqeem was in the habit of playing hide and seek with the police, he ignored the guards and advanced fearlessly. Even the police sub-inspector ignored him. But Mustaqeem's cousin Imamuddin got scared and started running after seeing the police. Sub-inspector Hariram Pal became suspicious of both of them and started searching for them along with his constable. At the behest of Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal, carrying a bag full of notes, Imamuddin started taking clothes from the bag. During this, the constable saw the police revolver in his bag. Subsequently, the constable tried to snatch the bag from Imamuddin. Because Mustaqeem's notes were kept in the bag. Thus Mustaqeem intervened to save the bag. Police sub-inspector Hariram Pal and robber Mustaqeem were captured alive. When the bandit Mustaqeem prevailed, the sub-inspector called the villagers for help. Meanwhile, Ganga Charan, a native of the village Melli, arrives and confronts Mustaqeem. By this time, his son and his friends had also left. Gangaram's son felt Mustaqeem beating his father. So all his friends tied Mustaqeem to a tree. The villagers and Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal were then severely assaulted. Police Sub Inspector Imamuddin's leg was broken in this fight. When Imamuddin did not inform the police about the identity of the robber Mustaqeem, the police and the villagers attacked Imamuddin severely. The bandit Mustaqeem could not control himself. And called Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal to him. When Hariram Pal came to him fearfully, Mustaqeem asked him, “Do you want to know my reality?” So listen, I am bandit Baba Mustaqeem Hearing this, Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal and the villagers were shocked. Thus, this information spread like wildfire in the nearby villages. Meanwhile, sub-inspector Hariram Pal sent a villager to the Derapur police station and asked him to bring the police force to the spot. Dacoit Mustaqeem understood that Dacoit Mustaqeem and his brother Imamuddin were under the control of the police. Mustaqeem understood that his last hour had come. He started shouting at sub-inspector Hariram Pal about his brother Imamuddin's innocence. During this, the robber Mustaqeem said that this boy is innocent, don't kill him, he is like a child, he has brought him here to show him the way. Mustaqeem begged Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Paul to release him, thus swearing at his children. On this, Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Palum swore in front of the robber Mustaqeem that he would not kill Imamuddin or Mustaqeem. Mustaqeem told Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal that he kept four gold rings, a watch and a gold chain in a bag along with the money to distribute to the poor. Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Paul kept all the items and notes with himself and told the villagers that the robber Mustaqeem was going to kill him. Responding to this charge, Baba Mustaqeem said that I had a revolver and if I had to fire, I would have killed the robber Mustaqeem on 5 March 1981 at 11 am. His cousin Imamuddin was tied to a tree by the police and villagers at Dastampur village in Kanpur. In the scorching heat of March, Mustaqeem asked the villagers for water to drink, but Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal refused to give water to Mustaqeem. After an argument between the villagers and the police, Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal allowed the villagers to drink water. He gave water to the robber Mustaqeem and his cousin Imamuddin. Another elder of the village, Lakshmi Narayan, prepared tea for everyone from her house and along with sub-inspector Hariram Pal and others served tea to rob Mustagheem. In this shop, Imamuddin kept crying and telling sub-inspector Hariram Pal that we belong to a poor family, please leave us alone. Meanwhile, Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Paul was drinking tea and talking to Mustaqeem. Later, four constables from the police station came to the spot and identified Baba Mustaqeem and sent information to the in-charge of the police station. After a while some more policemen from the police station arrived at the tempo. The police tied up the robber Mustaqeem and his cousin Imamuddin and put them in a tempo and reached the border of Kaluapur village. Due to strong opposition from the villagers of Kalupur village, the police took the duo to a deserted drain near Derapur village. Police Sub-Inspector Hariram Pal and constables were present there along with the Head of Police. Everyone shot the robber Mustaqeem with their guns. After that Imamuddin was also shot dead.
