The Election Commission of India announced on Wednesday that the elections for the 12 vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha will be held on September 3. 10 Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant in Mohandas as sitting members including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Misa Bharti were elected to the Lok Sabha. The commission said that the notification for these 12 Rajya Sabha elections will be published on August 14 and August 21 will be the last date for filing nominations for these seats. The Election Commission has informed that the election will be held separately for each Rajya Sabha constituency on September 3 and the results will be declared on the same day. Last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 26-27. August 26 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations for 12 constituencies in 9 states of Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tripura and in Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Telangana and Odisha. August 27. Of the total 12 vacancies in the Rajya Sabha, 2 each are from Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra; Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha have 1 vacancy each.
