The Cabinet has approved eight new railway projects, the main objective of which is to develop the eastern states and further strengthen the country's transport network. What are these new railway projects?
These eight railway projects, spread across 14 districts in total, will be implemented in seven states: Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, and West Bengal. A budget of ₹24,657 crore has been kept for these projects. These will not only improve connectivity but will also reduce the country's logistics cost and reduce oil imports drastically.

In these projects, the World Heritage Site of Ajanta Caves will be connected to the Indian Railways network, making it easier for a large number of tourists to reach here.

8155 crore rupees for railways in budget 2024
In the recently presented Budget 2024, the allocation for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has been reduced from ₹25,000 crore to ₹21,000 crore. At the same time, the budget support for the dedicated freight corridor has been increased to ₹8155 crore, from ₹3955 crore in the first interim budget.
