SUV, MPV, Hatchback… these are the categories of cars, know their meaning

There are many types of cars available in the Indian market. These cars of different categories have different names, which people who have knowledge about cars can easily understand. Such as SUV, hatchback, sedan, crossover etc. categories. But if you do not have knowledge about cars, then it will not be easy for you to understand these categories of cars. You will not be able to understand what kind of car is being talked about. Here such categories of cars and their meaning are being explained so that anyone can easily understand these categories of cars.
Hatchback Cars
Hatchback cars are those cars which come with 4 doors. Their doors open towards the front. Some premium hatchback cars also come with 2 doors. Cars like Alto 800, Swift, i10 etc. are examples of hatchback cars.
SUV
Everyone must be aware of the name of the SUV category of car, however, not everyone knows what SUV means and what is special about such cars. The full form of SUV is Sports Utility Vehicle. These cars are based on body on frame chassis. Their ground clearance is quite good and they have more jerk absorbing capacity as compared to other cars. SUV cars come with off-roaders and soft-roaders features. Examples of off-roader SUVs are Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Scorpio while Honda CR-V, Renault Duster are examples of soft-roader SUVs.
Sedans
These cars are also known as saloons in the UK. Like hatchbacks, sedan cars also have 4 doors. These cars are divided into three parts of engine, passenger and cargo. Examples of sedans are Honda Amaze, Maruti Ciaz, etc. There are also some sub-categories of sedan cars which are compact, sub-compact, fastback and notchback.
MPV
The full form of MPV is Multi Purpose Vehicle. As the name suggests, multi utility vehicles are used to carry passengers as well as goods. They are designed in this way. MPV has a good amount of space for keeping goods. It has two or three rows for seating passengers. This category includes cars like Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Omni and Datsun Go+.
 
Crossover
Crossover cars combine the features of a hatchback and an SUV. As the name suggests, they are designed for a soft ride. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Volvo S60 can be seen as examples of this.
Convertible Cars
Convertible cars have the option of removing and installing the roof. This feature is available in expensive cars. Ferrari California, Audi A3 Cabriolet are examples of this. These cars are also called Cabriolet and Roadster.
Coupé
These cars with fixed roof have two doors. However, many coupe cars also come with 4 door option. These cars have a sporty look and have less space than other cars. Its examples are Ford Mustang, Audi R8 etc.
