Supreme Court News: Special Lok Adalats of Supreme Court will reduce the burden of cases
There will also be some reduction in the number of cases pending in the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court News: Although Lok Adalats are organised from Supreme Court to district level to settle disputes with the consent of the parties in a cordial atmosphere through mutual agreement, but the five-day special Lok Adalat starting in the Supreme Court from Monday is something special. The Supreme Court is organising a five-day special Lok Adalat for the first time on its 75th anniversary. On Monday, special Lok Adalats will be organised in seven courts of the Supreme Court including the court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which will settle disputes with the consent of the parties through mediation. This special court will run from July 29 to August 3 and it is expected that thousands of cases will be settled in an amicable manner with the consent of the parties. There will also be some reduction in the pending cases in the Supreme Court.
On June 18, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had issued a video message on the Supreme Court website appealing to lawyers and parties to register cases in the special Lok Adalat to resolve their disputes. Since then, cases started getting registered for settlement in the special Lok Adalat. Highly placed sources say that in this sequence, more than 14 thousand cases of different categories were registered for hearing in the special Lok Adalat. Cases have been selected for hearing from that list. On Monday, more than 300 cases of special Lok Adalat are pending for settlement in seven courts. Out of which 68 such cases are pending in the court of the Chief Justice, on an average 45 to 50 cases are pending in the rest of the courts. These cases are different from the cases listed for daily hearing in the Supreme Court. According to the decided arrangement, in the special Lok Adalat starting from Monday, seven courts starting from the court of the Chief Justice will first hear the Stein cases in the morning. After the lunch break, the cases of the special Lok Adalat will be settled from two o'clock.
The same arrangement will be there in the special Lok Adalat which will run for five days. In the special Lok Adalat, the convenience of the parties (judges and lawyers) has been kept in mind and the hearing will also be done through video conferencing. Links of the special Lok Adalat to be held in all the seven courts have been released on the website of the Supreme Court. The parties can join the hearing from anywhere in the country. Matters like matrimonial disputes, property disputes, motor accident claims, British land acquisition, compensation, service and labour etc. will be settled in the special Lok Adalat. Lok Adalats provide a platform for dispute resolution through mediation and pave the way for amicable resolution of matters.
