Spam call: TRAI directs telcos to crack down on fake callers

Spam call: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has decided to take strict action against those making fake calls. TRAI on Thursday announced that telecom companies should terminate the telecom resources of any company misusing bulk connections for fake calls. Apart from this, all operators will ban such companies for two years, TRAI said. TRAI has warned that action will be taken against these companies using PRI/SIP connections for voice calls, robo calls or pre-recorded calls facing immediate consequences for inappropriate behaviour. TRAI chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti announced plans to improve rules to deal with fraudulent calls. TRAI held a meeting with regulatory authorities of telecom providers like Airtel, BSNL, QTL, Reliance Jio, Tata Teleservices, Vodafone Idea and V-Con Mobile & Infra. Representatives of MTNL and Reliance Communications Ltd could not attend the meeting. Any company misusing SIP/PRI lines will have to face severe consequences. Specifically, the Telecom Service Provider (TSP) disconnects all telecommunication resources belonging to the offending entity and then blacklists the entity.
