Sinner beats Medvedev to reach semi-finals
World number one Yannick Sinner entered the semi-finals of the US Open tennis tournament for the first time by defeating former champion Daniil Medvedev in four sets in the men's singles here on Wednesday.
Top seed Sinner of Italy defeated 2021 champion Medvedev 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Sinner is now the only Grand Slam winner left in the men's singles after the early exits of former world number ones Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner made a strong comeback after losing the first two sets in the Australian Open final in January and defeated Medvedev in five sets to win the title.
Sinner will face 25th seed Jack Draper of Britain on Friday for a place in the final.
Another semi-final on the same day will be played between 12th seed Taylor Fritz and 20th seed Frances Tiafoe.
Twenty-two-year-old Draper has reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. He is the first British male player to reach the semi-finals of the US Open since Andy Murray won the trophy in 2012. He defeated 10th seed Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
