SIDS conference held in Antigua, India expressed commitment to help

New Delhi. The fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) concluded in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday. Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Pawan Kapoor attended the four-day conference in the Caribbean country from India. During this, he reiterated India’s commitment to help small island developing countries in realizing their developmental aspirations.
The conference, titled ‘Creating Pathways to Resilient Prosperity’, aimed to assess the capacity of SIDS to achieve sustainable development, including the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. Kapoor held meetings with the heads of state and ministers of the group on the sidelines of the conference and discussed a range of topics from strengthening bilateral ties with India to the development of these countries.
Kapoor paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, during which PM Browne appreciated India’s support in hosting the 4th SIDS Summit in Antigua. Kapoor also met the Prime Ministers of Anguilla and Guyana on the sidelines of the summit.
The Indian High Commission in Guyana shared some photos on the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote, Further strengthening the India-Guyana partnership, Secretary (West) Pawan Kapoor paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Guyana, Hon’ble Brigadier (Retd) Mark Philip on the occasion of the 4th SIDS Conference in Antigua.
Along with this, Kapoor also met Anguilla’s Premier Dr. Alice Webster, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Foreign Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Guyana’s Natural Resources Minister Vikram Bharat and CARICOM Secretary General Dr. Carla Bennett. Before the conference ended, Antigua’s Foreign Minister Chet Green held a meeting with Kapoor, during which he expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by India during the Covid pandemic. Let us tell you that SIDS is a unique group of more than 50 members of UN member countries and UN regional commissions, who are facing unique social, economic and environmental challenges.
