Shashi Tharoor's aide nabbed at Delhi airport in gold smuggling case
Thiruvananthapuram MP Sashi Tharoor's aide Sivakumar has been caught by customs officials in a gold smuggling case. According to reports, Sivakumar was handing over the gold brought from abroad to someone he knew. Meanwhile, customs officials nabbed him at Delhi's IGI airport. Recently, IGI Airport Customs had arrested three Sri Lankan nationals. He was arrested for smuggling gold worth around Rs 1.23 crore in separate cases. After receiving information about gold smugglers, the department officials arrested one accused after he arrived here by air from Kathmandu on Sunday. '1.06 kg gold recovery' When officials searched him, 860.38 grams of gold was recovered. Its price was said to be Rs.55 lakh. The department said that 1.06 kg of gold worth Rs 67.82 lakh was recovered during the search of the luggage of two more passengers from Sri Lanka who had arrived from Colombo on Sunday. Last month, a diamond smuggling operation was busted at the Mumbai airport, with Mumbai Airport Customs exposing a major smuggling case. A man who was trying to smuggle diamonds worth Rs 2 crore to Bangkok was nabbed by the Air Intelligence Unit at the Mumbai airport. He hid diamonds in a pocket of noodles. A search of his luggage and bags revealed diamonds hidden in a packet of noodles. The accused was boarding a flight from Bangalore. He had to take a connecting flight to Bangkok.
