RCB lost due to batters”: Faf du Plessis hits out at his teammates after 6-wicket defeat against CSK

Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis was miffed with his batters after his team lost the opening match to Chennai Super Kings. The 6-wicket defeat continued RCB’s losing streak in Chennai. The first match of IPL 2024 was one-sided, with CSK making sure to keep the rival team’s score under control.

Chasing 174 runs, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja carried the team to the finishing line’ Dube scored 34 not off 28 balls, with the help of 4 fours and a six. The experienced campaigner Jadeja was unbeaten on 25 off 17, with the help of three fours.

Faf said that they were 15-20 runs short. “We fell behind from the start with a fall of quick wickets. We were 15-20 runs short and played a catching game,” he said on Star Sports.

“The wicket was good to bat on, and we didn’t capitalise on it after winning the toss. Chennai Super Kings are an excellent team, and they have been doing this for years,” Faf added.

Faf gave an excellent start to the Bengaluru-based franchise, but Virat Kohli wasted a lot of balls. Du Plessis managed 35 off 26 balls. His effort didn’t help the team, as Kohli took 20 balls to accumulate 21 runs.

Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell fell for ducks, while Cameron Green contributed just 18 runs.

Anuj Rawat’s (48) and Dinesh Karthik’s (38 not out) hitting took the score to a respectable position.

Chennai had it easy in the batting department. Rachin Ravindra (37 off 15 balls), Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 19 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (22 off 18 balls) made vital contributions.

Mustafizur Rahman was named the Player of the Match for taking 4 wickets.
