Rajasthan: The private sector is in the 'driving' seat in the economy today, said Rajnath Singh at the inauguration of Sainik School.
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has underlined the growing importance of the private sector in the country's economy. Today, the private sector is sitting in the driver's seat of the country's economy, he said on Monday. Rajnath said this while attending the opening ceremony of Sainik School in Jaipur, Rajasthan. New Sainik schools are also being established under the 'PPP' model, he said. He defined PPP as a 'Private Public Partnership' rather than a Public Private Partnership. Hence the importance of private sector can be emphasized. Along with this, he hoped that Sainik Schools would act as a catalyst for efforts to give a new direction to the society. The PPP model is a public private partnership Rajnath Singh says Sainik schools inculcate values like discipline, patriotism and courage in their students. He said that all the Sainik schools established so far in the country were run by the joint efforts of the central and state governments. But the Prime Minister has set a target of establishing 100 new Sainik schools. They are established and operated on PPP model. He said that generally PPP model is seen as public private partnership. The Defense Minister said that the Prime Minister has set a target of establishing 100 new Sainik Schools. It will be established and operated on PPP model i.e. Private Public Partnership. He said, 'Whenever it comes to public private partnership, the word public, meaning the role of the government, comes first. Whatever plan comes up, the first thing we start looking for is the role of the government. But now the circumstances are completely changing. Now that environment is completely changing, he said. So, now I move away from the standard definition of PPP and consider it as a private-public partnership. That's why we didn't use the word public earlier. We used the word private earlier. He said, 'Nowadays the role of the private sector in all sectors of the economy is more than that of the public sector so I put the word private first'. Talking about the primary sector of the country's economy, agriculture and its related activities, more than 50 percent of India's workforce is employed in it, the Defense Minister said. The largest part of the economy is the private sector. In the two remaining sectors of the economy, the manufacturing and service sectors, the role of the private sector has become greater than before. The Defense Minister said, 'I would like to say that today the private sector is sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle of the country's economy.'
