Prohibitory Order 144 has been imposed in West Bengal's Sandeshkali, where violence broke out after the seventh phase of polling.
By Manoranjan Singh, KOLKATA: Following the violence in Sandeshkali of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Saturday, the day of the seventh and final phase of polling, 144 curfew has been imposed in the area since Sunday. The police administration has issued 144 prohibitory orders from Sarpadia to Byrmari of Najad police station area till the counting day i.e. June 4. Basirhat Superintendent of Police Hussain Mehndi Rehman announced this on Sunday. It is noteworthy that there was violence after polling in Sandeshkali, a constituency of Pasirhat Lok Sabha. After this, the atmosphere has warmed up in many areas including Petmajur, Birmeri, Agarhati, Kanmari. BJP's camp office was attacked in Biyamari village of Sandeshkali on Saturday. In this, a BJP leader named Sanjal Kathua got injured on his head. Following this, a fierce clash broke out between Trinamool and BJP supporters. Many were injured. After this incident, women supporters of BJP took part in protest. When the West Bengal Police was informed about the incident, the enraged public attacked the police by pelting bricks and stones. Then, there was a slight push and shove with the police. As the matter escalated, the enraged public pelted the police with stones and stones. In response, the police used batons and fired tear gas shells. The Election Commission and Governor CV Anand Bose have sought a report from the state government regarding the Sandeshkali incident. In it, he asked why this incident happened and what steps were taken by the police to prevent it. In this case, the police have arrested 5 people in this case. They are interrogated.
