Accusations of Extortion and Murder Allegations
Valmik Karad, a close aide of Dhananjay Munde, was sent to judicial custody in January over allegations of illegal extortion. He has also been named as the mastermind behind the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, a sarpanch from Beed district who had opposed the extortion racket. The allegations against Karad and his associates had put immense pressure on the Fadnavis government, leading to growing demands for Munde’s resignation.
Devendra Fadnavis’ ‘Zero-Tolerance’ Policy in Action
According to reports, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a firm stance on the issue. Sources indicate that Fadnavis sent a letter to Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel, asking them to secure Munde’s resignation. Shortly after, Dhananjay Munde stepped down, marking another major political shake-up in the state.
Resignation Accepted, Future Course Unclear
CM Devendra Fadnavis has officially confirmed that Munde’s resignation has been accepted and forwarded to the Governor. The next steps will be decided by the Governor’s office, while the political ramifications of this development continue to unfold in Maharashtra’s power corridors.
This latest episode underlines the zero-tolerance policy of the Fadnavis administration and could have a lasting impact on the state’s political landscape, especially within the Ajit Pawar faction.
