In 1972, to join the movement to build a Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Chief Minister Yogi left home and went to the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur to join the movement to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya, a disciple of Mahant Awaityanath. Mahant also became the head priest of Gorakhnath Math after the death of Avadyyanath. Yogi started his political journey in 1998 by becoming the youngest MP from Gorakhpur. He was the MP of Gorakhpur for five consecutive terms from 1998 to 2017. He became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in March 2017 and was later elected for a second term in 2022. Apart from his political career, he also served as the head priest of Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityanath has been associated with the BJP since his youth and started his political journey as a student leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliated Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He joined the BJP in 1991 and was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1998. Chief Minister Yogi has been vocal about Hindutva ideology and Yogi Adityanath is very popular about Hindutva ideology. During his tenure as Chief Minister and earlier as an MP, he strongly advocated cow protection and supported a nationwide ban on cow slaughter. Before his political career, Adityanath earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and joined the Ayodhya Ram temple movement in the 1990s. He abandoned his family at the age of 21.
