Phase 7's 17 seats will change the game of power, here's how the equations are made and spoiled
In the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, 57 constituencies across 8 states will go to polls on June 1. From Himachal to Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar, elections are going on. While the political base of the Congress is slipping, the BJP has come to power after winning almost half of the seats in the last two consecutive Lok Sabha elections. At this stage there are 17 parliamentary constituencies where the voting system will change the entire game this time. In 2019, the BJP was leading in 57 constituencies of the seventh phase of polling on Saturday. In 2014 and 2019, BJP won 25 of the total 57 seats. Congress won three seats in 2014 and eight seats in 2019. It was only in Punjab that Congress was able to save its dignity. Apart from this, TMC won 9 and BJD 4 seats while JDU and Apna Dal (S) won two Lok Sabha seats. JMM won by one seat. 17 seats up for grabs in 7th phase: In the 7th phase of Lok Sabha polls, 17 Lok Sabha constituencies have seen a reversal of votes, leaving political parties in a tizzy. These seats inspire confidence in some and anxiety in others. Of these, there are six constituencies where the margin of victory and defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was less than two percentage points. Apart from this, there are 11 seats that change the game in every election. Voters change their mood with every election. In the last election, six constituencies namely Jalandhar, Bathinda in Punjab, Ballia and Chandoli in Uttar Pradesh, Balasore in Odisha and Jeganabad in Bihar were contested. The difference between success and failure in these was less than two percent. In Jaganabad, JTU's Chandrasekhar won by a margin of 1,751 votes. BJP's Pratap Chandra won the Balasur seat by a margin of 12,956 votes. Mahendranath Pandey won Chandoli by a margin of 13,959 votes. BJP's Virendra Singh Masth won the Balia constituency by a margin of 15,519 votes. Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur won the Bathinda constituency by a margin of 21772 votes. Congress candidate Chandok Singh won the Jalandhar seat by a margin of 19,491 votes. In the 2024 election, the game could change if some voters switch from one seat to another by narrow margins in these six seats. Analyzing the seats in the seventh phase, 11 Lok Sabha constituencies are formed where no party has been able to retain the seat in the last three elections. It has Ghazipur, Kosi, Robertsganj and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. Punjab also includes Anandpur Sahib, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. Apart from this, there are Balasore, Jaganabad in Odisha and Karagad in Bihar. In 2019, BJP won 2 seats, Apna Dal (S) 2 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party 2 seats and Congress 4 seats. JDU got one seat. If the same situation continues in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it will be a huge blow to the Congress in 4 constituencies, the biggest challenge for the BJP. If you look at the low voter turnout seats, it will be the biggest challenge for the BJP. However, in the seventh phase of the last election, BJP secured 40 per cent votes in 28 seats and 30 to 40 per cent votes in 12 seats. Meanwhile, in 18 seats, the Congress got less than 10 percent votes. Because of this, the seventh phase struggle is actually the final struggle for power in the country. Let's see who is on top.
