Punjab petrol diesel price increase: Petrol and diesel prices are going to increase in Punjab state. The state cabinet on Thursday decided to increase the price of petrol by 61 paise and diesel price by 92 paise. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Currently, petrol price in Moghali is Rs.97.01 per liter and diesel price is Rs.87.21 per liter. Petrol and diesel prices in Punjab are already higher than Chandigarh. Petrol and diesel prices in the Union Territory of Chandigarh are Rs 94.24 and Rs 82.40 per liter respectively. At the same time, petrol station owners have strongly condemned this decision of the Aam Aadmi Party government. They say it will have a negative impact on their careers. According to Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Seema, the increase in VAT will increase the revenue by Rs 545 crore. It has been decided to increase the VAT on petrol and diesel. He said VAT on petrol will be increased by 61 paise per liter and VAT on diesel by 92 paise. Seema said the increase in VAT on fuel would increase revenue by Rs 395 crore from diesel and Rs 150 crore from petrol. Petrol station owners said that 'this action will encourage fuel smuggling': For the third time in the last two and a half years, the Bhagwant Mann-led government has increased the price of fuel. Meanwhile, Mandy Sehgal, spokesperson of the Petrol Pump Dealers Association in Punjab, criticized the state government's decision to increase VAT on fuel. He said the increase in VAT on fuel will affect the sale of petrol and diesel in border districts. Monty Sehgal says that with this government decision, his business will go to neighboring states where fuel is cheaper. Ashwinder Singh Mongia, a petrol pump owner from Mohali, said the move would encourage fuel smuggling, which would ultimately lead to loss of tax revenue to the government. He said fuel is cheaper in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir than in Punjab. Also Read- All Vacancies of Teachers in Punjab to be Filled, CM Bhagwant Mann Announces on Teachers' Day
