Gold Loan Repayment: Recently a report has come out, in which it has been revealed that the number of people taking gold loans is increasing and now these people are not able to pay their EMIs. Congress is attacking the BJP government regarding this. Congress alleged that due to the wrong decisions of the Modi government, the problem of NPA related to gold loans has become acute in the country, due to which common citizens are losing their gold.
Jairam Ramesh accused BJP
Congress Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh made this allegation citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement during the Lok Sabha elections. Jairam Ramesh said, ‘Due to wrong priorities, this government has become the only government to snatch Mangalsutra from women.’

NPA of gold loan increased
A media report claims that, ‘Gold loan NPA (non-performing assets) of banks and non-banking financial companies is likely to increase by 30% to Rs. 10,000 by June 2024. Work worth Rs 6696 crore has been done. Congress has made this report its weapon and said that the situation in the country is worrying.
Jairam Ramesh claimed that, ‘Indian families have taken gold loans worth about Rs 3 lakh crore, most of which are yet to be repaid. Therefore Congress believes that when people are unable to repay such loans, they lose their gold assets. In most cases, women have jewellery, which also includes mangalsutra.’
PM Modi’s attack on Congress
During the Lok Sabha elections, in an election rally in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi had said, ‘Congress, which considers looting the country’s wealth as its birthright, is now eyeing the mangalsutra of women. The election manifesto of Congress talks about snatching people’s wealth and distributing it among the needy. PM Modi said that if you have two houses, if Congress comes to power, it will take away one of them and give it to those who do not have houses.
During the elections, PM Modi also claimed, ‘Congress now has its eyes on the gold of our mothers and sisters and their Mangalsutra and is playing the game of snatching away the property of mothers and sisters by changing the law.’
