The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear a case seeking inclusion of 77 castes in West Bengal as OBCs. Along with this, the court has announced that the hearing on the petition filed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this matter will be held on August 27. Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had stayed the Mamata government's decision. The West Bengal government on Tuesday requested the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for an early hearing of the case. In the last hearing, the Supreme Court refused to stay the Calcutta High Court's order. The Supreme Court sought a report from the Mamata government in the last hearing of the case related to the inclusion of 77 castes in West Bengal as OBCs. Why are 77 castes included in OBC list? The state government should provide information about the social and economic backwardness of these castes. The Supreme Court had directed the West Bengal government to provide information on the basis on which these castes were included in the OBC list. The court had asked them to report within a week about the survey conducted to find out their social and educational backwardness before including them in the list. Right there. Now the case is coming up for hearing on August 27. The Calcutta High Court has banned this, and the Calcutta High Court has banned the Mamata government's decision last May. Also, the court canceled all OBC certificates issued by the Mamata government after 2010. Between April 2010 and September 2010, the High Court overturned the decision to include 77 castes, including Muslims, in the OBC.
