Odisha: When will Jagannath temple gem shop open… What is the secret behind it?
Odisha's Jagannath Temple is one of the Char Dhams and is currently in the news for its gem presence. There is talk of reopening the temple gem shop. A list of treasure items should be prepared from the shop. To keep this whole process transparent, the new Bharatiya Janata Party government has set up a committee. Many former judges are also included in this committee. The committee has been set up on the instructions of the Odisha High Court. In March 2024, the then Naveen Patnaik government of Odisha prepared a list of stored jewels and utensils. The then Patnaik government also set up a committee to monitor the process. The work of this committee is to monitor the inventory of jewels and other valuables kept in the gem shop. In this committee, the government constituted a 12-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Arijit Basayat. What's the matter? In April 2018, the Odisha government ordered the opening of the Jagannath temple's gem shop on the instructions of the High Court and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The store could not be opened because the keys were missing. Even after investigation, nothing was found about the missing key. The key is not available, but the issue was raised very loudly in the election. On behalf of the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke a lot about this. There was also a request to file a judicial report in this regard. But now the government is going to reveal the secret inside the store and prepare a list of the contents in this matter. What's inside the gem store? Inside the Ratna Bandar is the treasure of the Jagannath temple, which is about 862 years old. The jewels of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhatrai, the three deities of the Jagannath temple, are said to be kept in the Ratna Bandar. Apart from this expensive vessels are also kept. The shop's doors have been locked for the past 40 years. Currently there is talk of reopening this store.
