Not only Bihar, but UP's litchi will be available in the market
Yogi government is continuously encouraging gardening
Local Krishi Vigyan Kendra is playing an important role
National Litchi Research Center is also getting help
Lucknow, in the coming few years, the market will be full of litchi not only from Bihar but also from Uttar Pradesh. The agro-climatic zones of the districts of Bihar (Muzaffarpur, Samastipur and Champaran etc.) where litchi is cultivated are more or less similar to UP's Purvanchal. In such a situation, naturally Purvanchal will play a leading role in this area. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home district is also Gorakhpur in Purvanchal. In such a situation, the government and its agricultural institutions also have a special focus on litchi cultivation.
How to Plant a Lychee Orchard
Take special care while planting litchi plants. In the pit where the litchi plant is planted, be sure to add the soil from under the old litchi tree. Mycorrhiza is found in it which is very essential for the growth of new litchi plants. This reduces the chances of the litchi plants dying.
Suitable species for Purvanchal
According to Dr. SP Singh, Senior Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Belipar Gorakhpur, run by Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture and Technology University Kumarganj Ayodhya, farmers are advised to plant certain species according to the agro-climatic zone of Purvanchal. These seven species are Rose Scented, Shahi, China, Early Vedana, Late Vedana, Gandki Sampada and Gandki Lalima. This center, selected under the Center of Excellence, is trying to provide quality saplings with better fruits to the farmers. For this, some plants of every species have also been planted. A nursery will be prepared from the best quality trees among these and made available to the farmers.
Litchi Research Center and Tata Trust are also giving encouragement
An organization named Sustainable Human Development Association has been doing this work for the last few years with the help of Tata Trust, National Litchi Research Center Muzaffarpur and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kushinagar. According to the head of the organization VM Tripathi, they take planting material, technical and other support from the concerned organizations as per the need. So far, with the help of his organization, about 40 to 50 acres of Shahi and China litchi orchards have been planted. Farmers also take intercropping in them according to the season.
Litchi orchards are also suitable for mixed crop cultivation
According to Dr. SP Singh, in the newly planted litchi orchard, farmers can also take intercropping according to the season in the empty space between the lines and plants. For example, in the first few years, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, carrot, fenugreek, spinach, creeper vegetables can be grown. When the shade of the plants starts increasing, then turmeric, ginger and yam can also be cultivated in the shady area. By doing this, not only will the income of the gardeners increase, but the orchard will also be better managed by constant care for intercropping. In the future, its benefits will be seen in the form of better fruits and quality of fruits.
Litchi is called the queen of fruits
Bright red colour. So much juice that it starts dripping as soon as the peel is removed. Due to these qualities, litchi full of sweetness is called the queen of fruits. Even when it comes to the market, litchi has the same charm as a queen. Litchi comes to the market for only two to three weeks and dominates. It is the only fruit whose wholesale business starts early in the morning and by the end of the day all the stock is sold out. For example, the market has never been a problem regarding litchi.
