According to a report by the United Nations Population Fund, India’s population has reached 144 crore, of which 24 percent is in the 0-14 age group. According to the last census of 2011, the population of India was 121 crores. The report also said that the number of deaths during childbirth has also decreased. According to this report, the proportion of people aged 10-19 years is 17 percent. 68 percent of India’s population is in the 10-24 age group, while seven percent is 65 and above. Life expectancy in India is 71 years for men and 74 years for women. The report says progress in sexual and reproductive health over 30 years has been largely ignored in the most remote communities around the world. The report also said that between 2006 and 2023, the percentage of child marriage in India was 23 percent.
Deaths during childbirth have decreased
India has seen a decline in maternal mortality. Citing a report by PLOS Global Public Health, it said that in 640 districts of the country, the death rate during the outbreak is less than 70 per lakh live births. This ratio is more than 210 in 114 districts. The report said women and girls with disabilities, refugees, sexual minorities, people from the queer community, people living with HIV and disadvantaged groups face the greatest sexual and reproductive health risks.
