The National Examinations Agency (NDA) said on Saturday that the education ministry has set up a four-member committee to examine the results of more than 1,500 candidates who received grace marks amid allegations of inflated marks in the examination. A four-member panel headed by the former chairman of UPSC will submit its recommendations in a week. After that the results of these candidates can be revised. Meanwhile, the NDA, which has denied any wrongdoing, has blamed changes in NCERT textbooks and mercy marks given to students for wasting time at the exam center as the reason for the high scores. The NDA rejected all the allegations and said there was no rigging in the exam. The exam was conducted only according to the prescribed standards. 'Review of results will not affect admission process' NDA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh said in a press conference that the granting of mercy marks will have no impact on the eligibility criteria of the examination and review of the results of the affected students. Confirm admission. On the question of re-conducting the exam for some students, the NTA Director General said that the decision would be taken based on the committee's recommendations. The announcement comes amidst the uproar over this year's NEET-UG results, with allegations of malpractice in the NEET exam and demands for a re-examination. The Congress has alleged that paper leakage, cheating and corruption have become an integral part of many exams. The Maharashtra government demanded the cancellation of the examination, claiming that the results were unfair to the students of the state. Haryana has 67 toppers and the chances of other candidates are said to have suffered as mercy marks have been given to compensate them for the time spent at six examination centres. These centers were located in Meghalaya, Chandigarh, Bahadurgarh in Haryana, Thandewada in Chhattisgarh and Balod, Surat in Gujarat. 67 toppers in the exam results, six of them from a single center in Haryana. So far, a total of 1,563 students (six of them first rankers) have been awarded grace marks based on the normalization formula, which is not shared by the NTA. These candidates are from six centers – two in Chhattisgarh (one each in Balod and Thandewada), Bahadurgarh in Meghalaya, Surat, Haryana and one each in Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the students filed petitions in several high courts. One of these writ petitions, filed by a NEET UG activist in the Delhi High Court, has been listed for hearing on June 12 after the vacation bench issued a notice on June 7. This petitioner has challenged the final answer sheet of question no.29. Another PIL filed before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court challenged the awarding of 718 or 719 marks to certain candidates in NEET UG 2024. The High Court heard the case on June 6 and directed the National Democratic Alliance to file an affidavit within 10 days. It reveals how reservation policy of central and state governments is followed in preparation of merit list. The case is listed for hearing before the regular session after two weeks. Apart from this, a writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court by another NEET UG candidate. Hearing the case on May 17, the court issued a notice to the defendants and adjourned the case to July 8 for further hearing. NTA announced the NEET UG 2024 result on June 4, 10 days ahead of the scheduled date and a record 67 students secured NEET All India Rank (AIR) 1. Out of these 67 students, 17 were ranked out of merit, 44 students were ranked due to wrong answer in Physics section and six students were ranked due to grace marks given for wasting examination time.
