Natural disaster in Wayanad… So far 123 people have died and hundreds have been injured

Landslides occurred at several places in Kerala's Wayanad district after heavy rains on Tuesday morning. The death toll in catastrophic accidents caused by landslides continues to rise. So far 123 people have died and 128 have been injured in this accident. The death toll is feared to rise as hundreds of people may be trapped in the rubble. A red alert has been sounded in Wayanad due to heavy rains. A landslide occurred in the area on Tuesday morning leaving people sleeping in their houses with no chance to escape. Amid the inclement weather, large numbers of rescue teams from the Army, Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are searching for the victims, and several organizations are working together to provide the necessary assistance to the victims. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is facing severe difficulties, said that more than 3,000 people have been shifted to 45 relief camps set up in the district. Vijayan said the first landslide occurred around 2 pm, followed by the second landslide at 4:10 am. He said the help of drones and dog teams are also being taken to locate and help people. Due to heavy rains in the area, the rescue teams are facing great difficulty in removing the bodies of the people. The Defense Ministry said in a post on Twitter that all possible efforts are underway. Additional troops, machinery, dog squads and other essential relief supplies are being airlifted from Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Delhi by service aircraft. Earlier, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi and reviewed the rescue and relief operations being carried out by the Army in landslide-hit Wayanad.
