Nag Ashwin Opens Up About Kalki 2898 AD’s Mythological Connection, Says ‘Does Not Involve Any…’ – Read
The science fiction action drama is said to be inspired by Hindu scriptures and has named its characters after a few mythological heroes, including Kalki, Ashwatthama and more. Speaking about the movie’s take on religion, director Nag Ashwin said the movie “does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus”.

In an interview with DeadlineAshwin said that one can take it as “extremely religious” or as the “story of somebody who was born with a lot of power and didn’t know what to do”. He also emphasised that the movie’s plot could be dealt with subjectively without bringing a religious connotation. “Of course, if you tell it in the Indian context there will be a bit of devotion and emotion, but I feel any story can be dealt with subjectively without bringing a religious connotation,” he added.

The movie also stars Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani in the key roles. According to 123 TeluguDeepika will portray a character which is the reincarnation of the goddess Lakshmi, named Padma. While the actress’ look in the movie has been revealed in several posters and teasers, the speculation around her character and the name are yet to be confirmed. It is being speculated that makers will release the trailer in the first week of June. The movie will hit the theatres on June 27.
