The court rejected the bail plea of Meerut city MLA Haji Rafiq Ansari. Rejecting the bail plea, the court ordered Haji Rafiq Ansari to be remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Meerut police arrested Haji Rafiq from Jaidpur, Barabanki. After his arrest, police produced Haji Rafiq in court on Monday. A court had issued a non-bailable warrant to SP MLA Haji Rafiq Ansari in a 1995 case. Warrants were issued for 101 dates and they did not appear. Rafiq approached the High Court against his arrest, but he got no relief from there. The High Court had directed the DGP and Home Principal Secretary to comply with the warrant order of the lower court. After that SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan formed a team headed by Civil Line Abhishek Tiwari and started the search. On Monday, Meerut police arrested Rafiq Ansari from Barabanki. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days, initially told that he was arrested from Lucknow. The police arrested him and brought him to Meerut and produced him in court. From there he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. The MLA was also given a medical examination before being produced in the court. About Haji Rafique, who is considered close to Akhilesh, he is a two-time MLA. Rabiq had defeated senior BJP leader Dr. Laxmikant Vajpayee in the UP assembly elections. Becoming an MLA from a city like Meerut is not easy for everyone. In such a situation, Rafiq is considered to be very close to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. At times Mulayam Singh was also considered one of Yadav's closest friends.
