Many village drinking water and sanitation committee meetings were attended by no departmental officials, leading to anger among the committee members

Jamshedpur: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Multi Village Water Supply and Sanitation Committee (MVWSC) Sunil Kisku on Friday at Jamshedpur block office complex. In the meeting, dissatisfaction was expressed that not a single representative of Adityapur, Jamshedpur and Baghbeda Rural Water Project contractor was present. The Jharkhand government laid the foundation stone for the Baghbeda mega water project in 2015 at a cost of Rs 237 crore, but nine years later, water has not reached 17 panchayats of Baghbeda, Kitadi, Karandi and Kaparih. Only officials and contractors from the drinking water supply department are working for this. Many villages do not attend drinking water and sanitation committee meetings. Couldn't talk to him. The government has set a target to provide water to residential areas by 2018. But now the works are not completed even in 2024. The main pipe and supply pipeline are yet to be laid. Home connection work is also not done. The work of drinking water treatment plant at Kitijobadi is also not half completed. In the meeting, the Committee President – Sunil Kisku, Vice President – Neenu Kutada, Manoj Murmu, Joba Mardi, Sonia Murmu, Uma Munda, Meena Devi, Aruna Ekka, Saraswati Dudu, Mayawati Dudu, Suchitra Mahato, Pinky Zora, Sangeeta Pari, Kamala Sharma, Rita Kop, Sunita Parla, Janaki Choi and others were present, Sunil Kisku, Chairman of Multi Village Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee, was told about the work of Bagbeda Greater Rural Water Supply Project. It should be completed by July itself. But looking at the indifference of the department, it seems that in the next two years, more than 1.5 lakh people of the panchayat area are not going to get rid of the water problem. On July 9, representatives of several village drinking water and sanitation committees met the Deputy Commissioner and unanimously decided to immediately complete the work of Bagbeda Periya Rural Drinking Water Project, where water is not available even at depth. They said they are waiting. This program for the last 9 years. Due to this delay, there is severe water shortage in the area. Many panchayat areas are not getting water even to a depth of 500 feet as the ground water level is rapidly decreasing. Due to this, the situation is likely to worsen in the future. This project should be completed soon to overcome the water problem. The government officials and the concerned departments should prioritize this project and provide drinking water facility to the villagers as soon as possible. To deal with the water crisis, water conservation and looking for alternative water sources are also important.
