Manusmriti will not be taught in Delhi University, the law faculty's proposal was rejected
Delhi University has rejected the law faculty's proposal to teach Manusmriti. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh said this will not be allowed to happen in the university. That is why the proposal is rejected. In fact, DU's Faculty of Law came forward to amend the syllabus to teach Manusmriti to third-year students. The matter was to be discussed in the Education Council meeting on Friday. But as soon as the proposal was made, it was met with opposition. The teachers of DU also wrote a letter to the Vice-Chancellor against this. These amendments are as per the proposal given by the DU Law Faculty, which calls for changes in the writings of the Judiciary. To this should be added the two chapters of the Manusmriti, the Manubhashyam of Medha Diti, and the Smriti Chandrika, a commentary on the Manusmriti. On June 24, the Curriculum Committee of Teachers unanimously approved and sent it to the Education Council. Teachers protest: Teachers objected to the plan to teach Manusmriti. Left-wing dedicated Social Democratic Teachers' Front had also written to the Vice-Chancellor calling against the progressive education system. In a letter written to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of General Secretary SS Parwal and President SK Sagar, it is written that such a proposal is highly objectionable. It also said that inclusion of any part or part of Manusmriti is against the basic structure of our Constitution and the principles of the Constitution of India.
