Maharashtra: Dozens injured as dozens of houses collapse in Yavatmal due to cyclone and heavy rains
On one hand, Cyclone Ramal continues to wreak havoc in the Bay of Bengal and on the other hand, the storm has caused extensive damage in some districts of Maharashtra. There are also reports of many houses collapsing due to the cyclone in Yavatmal district. Tin sheets were blown off many houses due to the cyclone. One person's hand was also cut and two others were reportedly seriously injured by the flying tin sheet. However, it is difficult to say whether this cyclone is related to Remal moving towards West Bengal. The sudden cyclone caused heavy damage in Arni and Mahagaon taluks of Yavatmal. Several villages of Arni and Mahagaon taluk have been severely affected by the cyclone. Babal in Arni taluk and Divrang and Kali Malgapur in Mahagaon taluk were caught in the grip of the cyclone. 25 houses collapsed in Papal. Thousands of trees were uprooted by the storm. Many roads are closed due to fallen trees. It is raining heavily with strong winds. Hence, Arni's Babal village is the worst affected by the storm. Jalgaon, Heavy loss due to unseasonal rains, banana plantations in Jalgaon. Many villages like Kapuswadi, Telgaon, Fatehpur of Jamnar taluk have suffered a lot of damage due to rain and storm. Three large banana groves have been destroyed in Kapus Wadi due to monsoon rains. Farmers have lost several lakhs of rupees due to failure of monsoon. Monsoon accompanied by stormy winds lashed Bhoos and Kirwali Shivra in Ambajokai taluk. Due to strong winds, electric poles fell at many places in Girwali Siwar area. Incidents of uprooted trees are also seen in many places. No concrete information is yet available on how many people have been killed or injured due to the storm and heavy rains in several districts. Rescue and relief operations are underway at many places. Cyclone Remel has become a severe storm. It is expected to hit the coast of Bangladesh and West Bengal on Sunday midnight. Wind speed of 110 to 120 kilometers per hour is likely when Remal reaches the coast. Wind speed may also increase. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected over West Bengal and Kolkata and surrounding coastal districts due to this cyclone.
