Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the country will be held on April 19. According to the instructions issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed in the respective cities on the day of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Apart from this, some state governments have already declared a public holiday on the day of voting. In the first phase, there will be a holiday in banks on April 19 in Chennai, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Nagpur and Shillong.
Apart from these states, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands also have general elections in the first phase. However, RBI has not yet given any information on bank holidays in these states.
April 19 has been declared a public holiday in Uttarakhand on polling day. Nagaland has already announced that all employees of government, private and commercial establishments in the state will get paid leave on the day of polling, so that they can cast their vote during the polling. Tamil Nadu government has also declared a public holiday on 19 April. On this day, voting will be held on all 39 Lok Sabha seats and by-election will also be held for Vilavancode assembly constituency.
