The North-East Delhi seat came into existence after delimitation in 2008 following the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission constituted in 2002. Earlier, most of it was in the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. Elections were held for the first time on this seat in 2009 and JP Agarwal of Congress won, but in 2014 and 2019, Manoj Tiwari on a BJP ticket managed to break into this stronghold of Congress.
