But taking medicines with citrus fruits like sweet lime, pineapple and orange juice can prove to be dangerous. People should take medicines with water only. Recently, the University of Western Ontario, Canada has also confirmed this. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of America has instructed people not to take medicines with grape juice.

Citrus fruit juice causes harm in this way – Taking cholesterol-lowering medicines like cetin with citrus fruit juice destroys the enzymes present in the small intestine, which increases the absorption of the medicine in the body and increases the risk of overdose. Similarly, taking the allergy medicine Allegra with grape juice also increases the pH level in the body. Due to their lack of absorption in the body, they are not effective.
Take medicine with water – Take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor and with water. Do not take it with juice or soft drinks.The medicine is taken in two ways, on an empty stomach or after eating. In both cases, the gap between taking the medicine should be 30 minutes.Generally, medicines for thyroid, TB and gas (acidity) are taken on an empty stomach whereas medicines for antibiotics, painkillers, heart or BP are taken after eating something.

Identify drug reactions:Reactions can also occur if the body is drug sensitive or if the medicine is taken in the wrong manner. Its symptoms are – swelling on the face, lips or pupils of the eyes, itching in the body, rashes, difficulty in breathing, nausea, diarrhea and stomach pain.
Check the sensitivity of the medicine:Take a quarter of the medicine as a trial. Monitor for 30 minutes. If no reaction-related symptoms appear, then you can take the full dose. If a reaction occurs, contact the doctor immediately.
Keep this in mind:Do not take aspirin on an empty stomach. It has a negative effect on the intestines.Do not take medicines containing metal ions such as calcium, magnesium and iron with milk or dairy products. These absorb antibacterial agents and the effectiveness of the medicine decreases.Give a gap of 30 minutes between blood thinning medicines, herbal and oral contraceptive medicines.
