KKR captain Shreyas Iyer is Shahid Afridi with brains”: Navjot Singh Sidhu
New Delhi: IPL 2024 kicked off in style on March 22 with CSK beating RCB by six wickets. It was a nostalgic moment for cricket fans as Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was a part of IPL’s extra innings in its initial years, returned to the commentary box after a hiatus.

Recently, Star Sports released a video where Sidhu assessed DC captain Rishabh Pant and KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer. In the video, Sidhu praised Pant’s determination to come back after a fatal car crash that he suffered in December 2022. Further, he also praised Iyer and made a bizarre Shahid Afridi reference.
Sidhu compared Iyer with Afridi and called him a better version of the former Pakistani cricketer.
“Rishabh Pant, I am a huge fan of his. Because he has his own style. You can have your role models. But his own style makes him unique. His sweeps, his pulls and to play on the up in England. To come out of Injury and play in the IPL is commendable.”
